Featuring Jeddie Sophronius, Shawn Hoo, and Mok Zining
NYC-based press Gaudy Boy is proud to present Interrogation Records, a book of poems by Chinese Indonesian Jeddie Sophronius. Selected by Divya Victor as the winner of the 2023 Gaudy Boy Poetry Book Prize, Interrogation Records follows Jeddie's research journey into the archives of the Indonesian massacre of 1965. The result is a book both politically necessary and immensely lyrical. Victor calls it "a gift and a redress of silence." Reading with Jeddie are Shawn Hoo and Mok Zining, two poets who are also personally invested in documentary poetics.
Jeddie Sophronius is the author of the poetry collections Happy Poems & Other Lies (Codhill Press, 2024) and Love & Sambal (The Word Works, 2024). A Chinese Indonesian writer, educator, and translator originally from Jakarta, he received his BA in English: Creative Writing from Western Michigan University and his MFA from the University of Virginia, where he served as the editor of Meridian. They currently divide their time between Indonesia and the US.
Shawn Hoo is the author of Of The Florids (Diode Editions, 2022), winner of the Medal Provocateur at the Eric Hoffer Book Award. His poems can be found on Poetry Daily and in New Singapore Poetries (Gaudy Boy, 2022).
Mok Zining is obsessed with random things: orchids, arabesques, sand. Her first book, The Orchid Folios, was shortlisted for the 2022 Singapore Literature Prize. She edits for Ethos Books and is at work on an essay collection, The Earthmovers.
